GVHD is a common complication associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Approximately 50% of patient who undergo allogeneic bone marrow transplantation are evaluated by a gastroenterologist for gastrointestinal symptoms and sign. Early recognition and intervention may significantly improve the outcome of this patients. The diagnosis of gastrointestinal GVHD is based upon histologic findings in endoscopic mucosal biopsy.
